MARIX RELEASES PERIMETER TO ADDRESS VULNERABILITIES IN
CORPORATE MESSAGING INFRASTRUCTURES

Perimeter Quarantines E-Mail Attachments Before They Reach The Desktop Without
Limiting Access Or Productivity

MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 10, 2003 /PRNewswire/ -- Marix Technologies, Inc., a leader in secure
content sharing solutions, today introduced Perimeter, software that addresses the vulnerabilities
and liabilities in corporate messaging infrastructures caused by e-mail attachments. Perimeter
removes the attachment load from messaging servers and storage systems while simultaneously
protecting desktops from unknown malicious code.

Perimeter leverages AppLink – Marix’s proprietary, patent-pending technology that combines a
document and the application used to create it into a single, shareable hyperlink (URL) that can be
inserted and delivered via any form of digital content, and accessed using a standard Web browser.
AppLink is platform and application independent, and can also be embedded within third-party
software applications.

“Our clients are initially attracted to Perimeter because it provides another layer of protection
against viruses and malicious code,” said Peter Mellon, President of The Baxter Group and NMSO,
a Marix Perimeter reseller. “But they quickly discover that Perimeter also delivers a substantial
return on their investment by reducing the operational and financial impact e-mail attachments
have on their already overburdened messaging infrastructures.”

With Perimeter in place, traditional intrusion protection is augmented, single instance storage
reduces the impact of e-mail attachments on corporate systems, and quarantine periods can be
set to allow e-mail scanners time to update their anti-virus signatures.

“Perimeter was designed to deliver both maximum protection and performance without restricting
user functionality,” said Dennis Johnson, Marix president and chief executive officer. “By removing
and centrally storing the attachment before it enters the corporate network, storage and access to
that attachment become secure and singular without limiting desktop access or productivity.”

Perimeter addresses company-wide business and technology issues by projecting attachments
and corresponding application to the desktop for a defined quarantine period after which standard
delivery is allowed. A single instance of the attachment is stored on a central server, providing
secure access to the information while safeguarding a company's networks and desktops. X

Perimeter acts as a gateway for all inbound e-mail traffic, monitoring inbound SMTP to identify e-mails containing attachments. Attachments are replaced at the e-mail gateway with a hyperlink. This URL provides access to the document and its application running remotely on data center servers. User interaction is through a standard Internet browser.
